This is Our Story

Hi, I’m Declan, the founder of Niche Coastal. I’m 23 years old, and I’ve always been passionate about delivering high standards of customer service, promoting well-being, and offering a slice of luxury that’s both accessible and affordable.

After graduating with a degree in International Hospitality Management, I worked in a management role at a 4-star resort for five years, refining my hospitality skills. During this time, I developed a love for sea swimming along the North Coast, which became my way to relieve stress. The calming effect of the cold water inspired me to create a mobile sauna service to complement this experience. I spent months refining the concept, testing various sauna experiences, to design the perfect offering.

While sauna therapy has numerous benefits, from improving circulation and boosting the immune system to enhancing relaxation and mental clarity, my ultimate goal with Niche Coastal Sauna is to create a community of like-minded individuals. By experiencing the magic of the sauna and the coastal beauty of our area, I hope people will truly feel and see the remarkable benefits for themselves.

On my 22nd birthday, I began turning this dream into a reality. I stumbled upon the idea of using a horsebox for the sauna — re-purposing something so unexpected felt uniquely fitting. Who would’ve thought that a horsebox could one day become a luxurious mobile sauna?

As for the name, Niche Coastal came from a series of conversations with my sister and close family and friends. We all kept referring to the concept as “Niche,” and when it resonated so deeply with those around us, we knew it was the perfect fit. “Coastal” felt natural, given the breathtaking locations we are surrounded by.

From the start, I had a clear vision of how the trailer would look. When I found the perfect Defender to tow it, it had the exact aesthetic I’d imagined. The countryside feel of the Defender matched the local area perfectly, blending land and sea just as the North Coast naturally does so beautifully.

One small but meaningful detail is the hula girl in our logo. When I purchased the Defender, the previous owner insisted that the hula girl on the dashboard stay with the car. As I drove it home, she bobbled along, and we thought, why not incorporate her into our story? Later, when we worked with our wonderful graphic designer, we discovered she shared the same name as the lady who sold us the car, and it felt like fate. So, we decided to pay homage to both of these women in the name of our logo: Nlara — a nod to them, to Niche, and to the story we’re creating together.

I’m excited to share this experience with you, and I hope to see you soon on the North Coast — where relaxation, luxury, and well-being come together most unexpectedly.
